If you go back into the bush to the Whakapapa river you will find the start/end of the 42nd traverse, a bike or 4x4 track through the Tongariro forest, so I guess you will need one of these .

Up at Latitude 39 South
That is where Owhango is .. not much of a place, garage, ski shop, pub and a coffee shop "Out of the Fog" which ios only open on the weekends.
