Arrived just before the Aratiatia Dam control gates where opened to allow the water to flow over the rapids. From the pictures you can see the before and after water flow.
The contol gates are opened at set times per day so the tourists can see what it used to look like.
The dam is the first of eight on the Waikato river the flows from Lake Taupo.
